Being gambling addicted and not being a gambling addict

Recommended Posts

What is interesting about gambling addiction is that loosing too much money is almost a requirement to call yourself a gambling addict.  If someone tells you they are a hopeless gambling addict who plays five hours a day for the last two years, and you ask them how much they lost and they say five dollars in that period, playing micro stakes, is that person really an addict?  According to the definition, you can be a gambling addict, as long as you don't loose meaningful cash.  What you guys think about that?

Interesting question but its impossible to lose only that much gambling 5 hours a day for the last two years no matter how small bet the person makes. :D If that's the case then he/she is not really a gambling addict as he/she can very well control himself/herself to not gamble more than 5 hours a day and managing his/her bankroll well enough that he/she only lose $5 in that entire duration of two years.

So in other words when one is responsible about it, its more enterinment than addiction, even if it done daily for hours.   Kinda like internet or watching tv.  When there is lack of control, it turns into addiction.  Other drugs are not like that, daily use means you're addicted, for the most part.

In my opinion addiction is not about how much you lost in a period of time but is about of how much time you spend gambling if's daily or not.

That is it!!! Gambling is not about the money but the time. Today, I think I have spent 20$ in Gambling, but I have been rolling dice for 6 hours now.

Am I an addict or not?

I am not an addict. 😁😁😂

If i would be called for gambling 5 hours every day an addict i would not accept it. That's not what to us gamblers look like.

I can gamble daily and still go out as soon as i feel to. Does that makes me an addict just because i like gambling and i know i can win some?

Addict might sound like some person who tries FORCEFULLY to gamble (in terms of gambling of course) just for his own pleasure on seaking redemption, attemption or some sort of recovering his lost money (where he could also be positive (green) overall)

Without losing big no one can say that they are gambling addicted. Yesterday I have lost 150$+ at a site. I spent most of the time nearly hole day long to lost that 150$. I'm a gambling addicted. Cause after losing big like that previous time I haven't stopped yet. Still playing like this. Spending five hours every day for long time and losing only five dollars is really funny. I could addressed them as beggar. What they did only spending 5$ haven't won big also. That's mean they spent that time for getting free money. Addicted gambler always take risk with big balance. 5$ is somehow dust amount for the addicted people. They will always try to make it big or bust as dumb.

Thank you very much for your reply.  I feel for all addicts because of addictions in areas outside of gambling.  With gambling I lost too much ones, the type of money I have to pay back for months, and I never done that again.  Be your own doctor when it comes to personal addictions, I feel its better to keep the addiction within acceptable parameters than to loose it forever.  I was able to meter and control substances because I hated living without them after quitting, but of course sometime quitting is the only option.

Gambling addiction usually occurs when you lose too much on any gambling platform, because you would want to recover the lost fund, that way you start spending much time gambling. Most of us are quity of this addiction. I usually spends an entire day on primedice last year. Is it an addiction?

A person is a gambling addict when he/she cannot stop going to the casino and placing bets. He/She also won't have any control over his/her finances and also no control over his/her life. I wouldn't describe a person who gambles like 2 hours a day an addict only the definition i have given is suited for a person who is or is gonna be called a gambling addict if he fits into the criteria.

I think that person is an addict because he spent too much time at gambling, only difference is how much money he spent, but in my opinion that is not only factor to look. He is someone like gamer, if he spending 5 hours a day at gaming, months and months, he is an addict.

In other hand he would probably quit his addict easier than someone who puts more money.

Also, I do not think that is neccesery bad thing, because he have cheap entertainment.
