Making a living from gambling

Recommended Posts

Hm.. some games yeah.. but you need to be very good and smart and patient. And of course lucky.

Some games can make you easier rich than others. But you probably already need some basic balance to catch the big fishes. Or win the right poker-tournament.

There are professional gamblers out there - but if you're playing against the house (like in dice), then it's not really a viable prospect because the game has a negative Expected Value (EV-). But if you're gambling on equal footing with opponents (like in poker), then it introduces a human element in the game. That's something which can be exploited to give a competitive advantage, so you can win more often than you lose.

But I'd honestly never recommend it to anyone. Don't go regularly risking your livelihood on chance!

if we bust the whole balance and there is no way of paying the bills ?

Every return has a risk associated with it. Now those who gamble for a living do have backup funds to make sure they dont end up in a bad situation. But trust me, it is not their main source of income, they have a lot of other sources too.

Such a life is not for everyone.

Seriously? Then you shouldn’t gamble. But if you play in a in big style, you have enough funds or other ways to make your money.

if you have a lot of money, you easily find ways to make more.

I know a few people in real life who make a living playing poker. They do a lot of micro stake grinding on poker stars and also do tournaments at real casino's from time to time.

I have tried a fair bit of online poker without much success.

I'm surprised you didn't know that. I don't know how that guy is called.. but he was in the media a lot. He made some good, real good, money through a tournament and was able to maximize his profits. Thats of course the best case scenario, when your goal is to be rich.

But a lot play a little here and there and make their living from that. Absolutely possible. I played online poker when I was younger and took some money from it ($20 amounts) and I was far from being professional. But if I'm able to get $20 a week, its absolutely possible to add some zeros behind that 20.

I do have a friend of mine that succeeded in poker too. He is pretty known in the "poker world" as he played lots of tournaments. He is Andrei Boghean and he can be found in a simple search on google, the first results are him.

The thing is that when he was young and started doing it, he lost a lot, but A LOT of money. He would've borrowed from the bank and used all the money his parents had without asking them (that's why he got in a lot of trouble with his parents when he was young). But now he is a millionaire and doesn't care about the money he lost and his parents regret (somehow) that they didn't support him more when he was a kid as he returned back what he lost from them and is still giving them money whenever they need.

The sad part is that if you want to risk it and go into something like this, you should be able to risk it, you should train a lot, but by a lot I don't mean only a few hours a day, but as much as you can stay awake you should just try and try again and so on until you won't ever lose, and after you've done that, you still have a one in a million chance to be able to actually make profit out of it and be able to sustain yourself just from gambling.

So yeah, my answer: Yes, you can make a living from gambling. My advice: you shouldn't aim for it as it is only for the really lucky ones, not just for the ones that did manage to hit a green on 1% change on dice.

I gamble for a living. I own an advertising firm so it's not my only source of income, but I've been doing this for a long time. Usually it's on sports 7 days a week (mainly soccer but I do bet all sports). And of course, now rolling dice here on PD along with poker and table games (no blackjack).

I have a few bits of advice to offer. Gambling will not make you rich short-term. If you think this, you will find out rather quickly how wrong you are.

All great gamblers have to demonstrate the ability to take their losses in stride. And by that, I mean accept the fact that this is gambling, and winning ALL THE TIME is not an option. If you can't handle that or don't have the funds to cover the losing weeks, this isn't for you.

Mental breaks are important, whether it's for personal time or family time, DO NOT let gambling consume your life, it will eat you from the inside out.

AVOID GREED. If you are up, take your winnings and count your blessings. Your bets should never exceed more than 10% of your bankroll.

Seek information everywhere, we live in a digital world, take advantage of it!

Seek a mentor, find someone who has been successful and listen to them. Only a fool thinks he knows everything.

Sorry for the rant, hope this helps someone out there. Feel free to message me if you have any gambling questions related to sports or casino betting.

GOOD LUCK!
